The Destination For Love: Millie + Edik At Markree Castle

We love wedding a Markree Castle and this one is extra magical…

This gorgeous pair created a two-day celebration that we just couldn’t take our eyes off of! Travelling all the way from Seattle, Washington this precious pair’s destination wedding at Markree was surely one for the books!

Blending Indian traditions into their enchanting weekend events, Millie and Edik tied the knot in two separate ceremonies both with their own distinctive attire. We just adore the bright, cheerful colours and genuine excitement captured in each heartfelt moment by photographer Conor Doherty. You won’t want to miss Millie and Edik’s fabulous celebrations and all of the traditional details…

The Beginning

“Edik was born and raised in Seattle, WA while I grew up just a few hours south in southern California. We first met all the way at the other end of the country at the University of Virginia, where we bonded over biomedical engineering and The Hobbit. One dog, two PhDs, and five years later, we decided to tie the knot!”

The Proposal

“Edik popped the question during our Scottish adventure in May 2017. His original plan was to hike to a cliff top and pop the question while we looked out over the Atlantic. But, after being harassed by an angry sheep and sidetracked by highland coos, we didn’t stay long atop the cliffs. The right moment came along during a peaceful stroll along the singing sands of Islay. After a bit of fumbling with the ring box, we decided to get married and celebrated with a few drams of Laphroaig’s finest single malt whiskies! We bottled a bit of our joy (in the form of cask whisky) and over a year later we uncorked those bottles and savored the memories on our wedding day!”

The Attire

“How much time do you have??? We had A LOT of different outfits for the two days. The first night Edik and I both wore green Indian outfits, they were more casual so that we could show off our killer dance moves all night long! The next morning for the Indian ceremony, Edik more a traditional outfit with a long gold over coat that was embroidered with gold and red beads. He also wore a red turban and fun pointy gold shoes. I wore a red Indian outfit and traditional jewellery that belonged to my mother and had been worn by my sister at her wedding. All of our Indian outfits including the bridal party and grooms party were custom made in India. For the second ceremony, Edik wore a navy suit and black shoes while I wore a white Pronovias gown with a long train and an even longer veil. We felt so special that day and the clothes were a fun part of that!”

The Venue

“Edik and I love to travel and wanted to share that with our guests, a destination wedding was our dream. As for the specific destination, I had spent a summer in Ballyvaughn during university and had fallen in love with Ireland. So much so that my parents had to see for themselves what I was raving about. They came, they saw, and they also loved it! At the time Edik and already asked my parents for permission to marry me so they took the liberty of perusing wedding venues (unbeknownst to me) during their trip to Ireland and wasted no time in proposing the idea as soon as we were officially engaged. And I am so glad they did!

The service was INCREDIBLE. The staff was so experienced and knowledgeable and they made the entire two-day affair just the most wonderful experience. It’s now been almost 9 months and we and our guests are still wishing we could go back there and be pampered all over again. Everyone at Markree and all the vendors really went above and beyond!”

The Photographer

“Our favorite thing about working with Conor was his energy. He really made two awkward people who hate having their picture taken feel so at ease. He also took the most stunning photos and we can’t stop staring at them!”

Trends & Themes

“We did have a mixed culture wedding. That made it all the more fun because we had so many traditions we wanted to honour that the festivities stretched over two days! We had Indian music, dancing, and henna the first night and the second day had two wedding ceremonies and our reception. It was a packed weekend and so much fun!”

Special Moments

“The most special moment was definitely finally being married! We really had the best time with our guests, it truly was a merging of families!”
