This week, wedding expert Sara Farell tells us what no one will tell you about wedding planning…
Over the last few years, I felt that when it came to weddings, I knew my stuff. It wasn’t until my own that I realised that there were some stones left unturned!
The first area that I wasn’t too strong on was the church side of things. I found getting the right information really difficult. Here is what I didn’t know about a church wedding:
- If you are getting married in a different parish, you will need a letter of release.
- You also need to give the state 3 months’ notice and you can book your appointment through the HSE website. It is a €200 fee.
The biggest area that no one will tell you is that it’s not the most romantic thing to plan. You have to remember, there are 2 families coming together, both of your finances coming together and you have a big responsibility to look after your guests and ensure they have a great time. With that comes pressure and stress…..you will have disagreements!
You will also see who your most important friends are. To put it in perspective, this is your most important day, but it’s not everyone else’s and any friend who shares the enthusiasm and helps you out no matter what the task is a true friend!
The budget you set will never be enough, you need to just let things go, always ask….is anyone really going to remember this little extra I want to buy. If the answer is no, then don’t buy it.
The most important thing is that it is not physically possible to have a ‘Perfect’ wedding, accept that not everything is going to be perfect and more than likely no one else will notice.
What I have learnt is that it has been such a great project for us as a couple, we have never had to really work as a team before. Despite the hard parts it has been fun and we have created plenty of memories to look back on!
