Bridal Hair Advice

by Sabrina O’Neill-Kelly, The Parlour Hair Salon

Hello ladies, I’m Sabrina O’Neill-Kelly, owner of The Parlour Hair Salon in Gortnahoe, Co. Tipperary, we are situated just outside of Thurles town. I started the business two years ago and it has been the best experience ever!  I’m here to pass on some wedding hair tips I give to all of my brides, including things I have learned from being a bride myself and from being a stylist to others!

Condition and Colour

I always advise my brides in the months leading up to the big day,  that their hair care routine needs to be stepped up a notch. In The Parlour Hair Salon, we have a wide range of Alfa Parf products to suit all hair types from serums to masks, there is something to suit every hair type. I have yet to hear any bad feedback about this hair care range… I call these products my ‘holy grail’! I would also advise brides against any radical hair colour changes. For example, if you’re a brunette, stay a brunette. There is nothing worse than looking back at pictures and thinking ‘Who is she!’ and ‘Why did I change so quickly!’

Pick a hair style that complements your dress

Once the daunting and exciting task of picking out the dress is over, it’s now time to pick a hair style to complement your dress and your personal style. Don’t forget, it is very important to consider the neck line of your dress. Here are a few pointers I run through with all my brides:

  • Sweetheart Neckline – This is a very versatile neck line, hair can be worn up high or down in elegant, soft curls.
  • High Neckline – I would advise a high up-style for this dress, as it opens up the neck. I find if the hair is down, it can hide your neck and not be as flattering in photos! An Audrey Hepburn style bun would be perfect with this dress.
  • Backless Dress – For this style something soft and low sitting on the nape of the neck is just perfect and does not take away from the style of the dress.

Trial, Trial, Trial!

I always advise my clients to book in for the day they are also going for a dress fitting. This way, you can really experience the whole look at once. We do as many trials for our brides as they need, this is your special day so you  should try on all the veils and head pieces the bridal shop has to offer. It’s your day, so we will make sure it is perfect!

At The Parlour Hair Salon, we strive to make your big day stress free. We have been known to become impromptu flower collectors, photographers, you name it, we have done it! We also have an extremely talented makeup artist, who is on hand for weddings! We can come to your home on the day, or we close down our salon for your bridal party!
