Relaxed Romance: Sarah + Jonathan at Markree Castle

This Markree wedding makes our hearts sing!

Sarah and Jonathan wanted to create a day where they could mark the momentous occasion surrounded by friends and family. We’d say they were successful, as joy and laughter filled the day from beginning to end!

The bride and groom grinned and giggled their way through their sunny June wedding at the magical Markree Castle in Sligo. With an ultra-relaxed vibe and a touch of elegance, it looked like everyone was enjoying the festivities to celebrate these two love birds tieing the knot. Fall in love with all the happy details captured by Mark Capilitan Photography below…

The Beginning

“We’re both from Fermanagh but only actually met 9 years ago in a local pub.”

The Proposal

“We were on holiday last July in Madeira. It was towards the end of our stay and I was just planning what we were going to do for the day when he slid this box across the map. I didn’t even open it at first as I thought it was a joke. He asked me was I not going to even look at it, so I did, but still thought he was messing. I’m not sure he even got a yes, but putting the ring on my finger seemed to seal the deal! It was a complete shock and judging from the reaction of our families, for them as well!”

The Attire

“My dress was Justin Alexander from Serendipity. I wanted something quite simple and elegant. The bridesmaids wore a multiway dress from Debenhams and the men wore suits from S.D Kells.”

The Venue

“One thing we both wanted was somewhere different where it would just be ourselves, friends and family. I had done a basic search online of potential places and Markree was the second venue we visited. The pictures didn’t do it justice. We were sold by the time we’d walked up the staircase.

We loved the fact that although it’s a really grand venue, it still has that homely feel to it. I also liked the fact that we could have the whole day there and the chapel is just amazing. Although we were having a civil ceremony, it still managed to have a religious feel to it.”

The Photographer

“From the first Skype chat with Mark, we knew he’d be easy to get on with. He was just so organised and quick at getting back to us. On the actual day he just blended into the background which is no mean feat when you’re over 6ft! He had our wedding photos ready for us just a couple of days after the wedding to have a look over and they really captured the day so well. We’d highly recommend him.”

Trends & Themes

“I wouldn’t say we had a particular theme. We were both pretty laidback in the organisation process and to be honest if it hadn’t been for friends and family sending pictures and links to things, I’m not sure it all would have happened on time!”

Special Moments

“I don’t think we could pick out one particular moment. It was just the best day and everyone has commented on how relaxed it was which I think really reflected our personalities!”
