Getting the groom excited about certain aspects of wedding planning can be a nightmare! Nothing drives me more bonkers than hearing the phrase ‘choose whatever makes you happy’. Trust me, it will make you want to instantly pin him to the wall. Of course, that old-school gentility is lovely, but we live in frickin 2016. It’s time to get stuck in and voice your opinion! Of course, a lot of girly stuff, he may not be interested in. But here’s a few areas that might just rouse his attention.
Organise An Engagement Shoot
The thought of posing in front of a camera all day would make anyone nervous. So the groom can be forgiven for being slightly negative at the thought of wedding photographs. Planning a fun engagement shoot ahead of your big day will help him loosen up and get a flavor of what’s to come. It will also help you to build a relationship and feel more comfortable with your photographer. Who knows, he may even enjoy it!
Include His Personality or Hobbies
There are hundreds of ways to include both personalities in your wedding theme, and Pinterest is a great way to begin your research. Simple details and subtle flecks will help him feel more included. Whether it’s including his favourite shade in the wedding colour palette, naming tables after his favourite soccer teams, ordering super hero socks for the groomsmen or having a GAA guard of honour after your ceremony, he’ll appreciate and love the thought.
Food, Food Food
It’s true what they say. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. This is one area he’s going to want to have a say in – after all it’s the most important element of every Irish wedding! Many venues offer a food-tasting experience as part of their wedding package. Following this, sit down together and devise your perfect menu. Marriage is all about compromise, so why not choose your two favourite sweet treats as dessert options or if he loves his mash, opt for this rather than potato gratin with your main course. Same goes for sampling the wedding cake – bet he didn’t even know all these perks came with planning a wedding!
Give Him Fun Tasks
If music and entertainment is his area of expertise, give him free reign. Organising the wedding band, DJ and everything between is guaranteed to keep him on his toes. Maybe he could pick a fun activity such as a magician for that awkward lull after the ceremony or if you’re having a summer wedding, a pop-up gin bar with cigars will earn him brownie points with the lads. Sorted.
Brainstorm The Honeymoon Together
Make a bucket list of must-see destinations that are in line with your budget and whittle down to your favourite. Once you’ve decided on that once-in-a-lifetime holiday, begin researching some super cool activities for while you’re honeymooning and start that countdown. How exciting!!
