Love locks seem to be everywhere at the moment. For anyone who hasn’t heard of them, love locks are padlocks that couples place on a bridge, fence or gate as a symbol of their love. This origin of this trend can be traced back 100 years, to a to a hopelessly romantic Serbian story of World War I. Love locks started reappearing again in Europe in the early 2000s (for reasons still unknown). But, nonetheless, an adorable idea for couples honeymooning or on a trip and Harvey’s Point Hotel have currently made this trend a part of their couple’s wedding day.
“We have a lovely wee pond on our grounds located beside the boat house so we built a bridge over the pond”, mentions Samantha at Harvey’s Point. “We have a suggestion box in our staff area for ideas, Damien a member of staff, came up with it he had seen a bridge in Paris with this done”, she explained.
Each couple that enters Harvey’s Point has their own special story which is solidified with these love locks. When asking Samantha who has inspired her, she noted, “truthfully all of our couples are inspiring and it would be really hard to pick between them! They all put so much time and effort into planning their weddings, right down to the very last detail. Some are also planning from abroad which is even more difficult we take our hats off to them all and wish them the very best for their futures together.”
But, one of her favourite stories has to be a recent couple. “They are all special to us, but we had a couple who came especially to get engaged on the bridge so afterwards we order them a lock and have invited them back to place it on the bridge. This I think is my favourite as it was just so romantic.”
