You should only decide how to style your wedding hair after you have purchased the dress. The style of your wedding dress will have a part to play in your overall choice. No matter how much you fall in love with a certain hairstyle, you should make sure it ‘suits’ your gown. For example, boho chic waves may not compliment a couture dress as much as a chignon or a classic bun would!
There are an abundance of hairstyles to choose from once you let your imagination loose. I always say the red carpet is one of the best places to find hair inspiration! Why not check out styles your favourite celebs have worn to recent events and create your own version of a particular style. Your wedding hair must not take away from your dress. Say if you are wearing a dress with back detail, a keyhole perhaps or sheer lace, I would wear your hair up. You couldn’t cover up such gorgeous detail by leaving your hair down! The same can be said by dresses with long sleeves, it may be best to wear your hair up so that there is not too much going on with your upper half.
If you are wearing a strapless gown then think about leaving your hair down. Loose curls falling to your bare shoulders is a very pretty look. It also avoids any head shots with a bare neck where you might look naked! If you do decide to wear it up, I would go with a loose up-do and perhaps a statement necklace which will stop your neck looking bare. A figure hugging mermaid dress will be complimented by a voluminous up-do perhaps consisting of curls, while a simple clean cut dress would be suited better to a French twist or simple half up half down style.
Ultimately the choice is yours, and don’t be afraid to play around with different styles when trying on your wedding dress. It’s likely that you will try it on again and again anyway! Decide if you are going to wear a wedding veil or hair accessories and there you go, your look is almost complete!
